About this role
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Intake and assessment.
- Individual and group counseling.
- Concrete services, entitlements and advocacy.
- Escort clients to various appointments.
- Documentation, record keeping and progress notes.
- Psychosocial, treatment planning and aftercare follow-up.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Housing placement
- Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed. Related duties as assigned.
HOURS:
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
| Sunday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm (with late night) |
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma required. BA preferred, Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred. Experience working with homeless mentally ill. Outreach, entitlement, substance abuse experience helpful. CASAC preferred. Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel. CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.
*Vaccination preferred but not required.

About Bowery Residents' Committee
BRC is one of New York City's largest providers of housing and services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Founded in 1971 by a group of recovering alcoholics living in poverty in the Bowery’s infamous flophouses, these individuals had hope, and a firm belief that better days lay ahead.
BRC serves nearly 13,000 individuals each year, operating more than 30 programs throughout the greater metropolitan area. The organization’s robust continuum of housing and services includes over 3,700 units of transitional and permanent housing; outreach and case management programs; and substance use and medical services. What you'll do
- The Independent Living Specialist is responsible for conducting intake and assessments, providing individual and group counseling, and assisting clients with housing placement. Additional duties include documentation, treatment planning, and escorting clients to appointments.
