About the team: The Data & AI Governance department enables extending the governance theme of policies, standards, processes and technology for governing data and AI to driving excellence in our approach to leveraging secure, trusted, accessible data for data driven decision making through:

  • An overarching Data & AI Policy to include associated standards

  • Data & AI Governance including meta and master data management

  • Data & AI Delivery Governance

  • Data & AI Quality including both technical and business quality measures

This enables the maturity of Data and AI capabilities across Booking.com, unlocking data and algorithms as assets for delivering innovative growth opportunities and cost saving operational efficiencies. 

 

Role Description: We are seeking a Compliance Analytics Engineer to bridge the gap between complex regulatory requirements and scalable data solutions. In this role, you will design and maintain the data ecosystem that monitors our organization's adherence to key regulatory requirements and internal Data & AI Governance framework. You will combine data engineering principles with risk management expertise to build automated monitoring systems, minimize false positives in alert generation, and empower stakeholders with trustworthy, actionable dashboards. You will play a pivotal role in operationalizing the risk & adherence monitoring against key regulatory (DMA, EU AI Act) and internal governance requirements. 

 

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Automated Monitoring & Risk Detection

    • Translate abstract regulatory requirements and internal policies into technical rules, SQL queries, and statistical dashboards.

    • Develop and deploy automated detection algorithms to flag anomalies, policy violations, and compliance risks in near real-time.

    • Continuously tune logic and thresholds to balance risk coverage while minimizing false positives for operational teams.

  • Data Pipeline Architecture & Reporting

    • Design and build reliable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) specifically for compliance reporting, ensuring high availability and data consistency.

    • Create self-service dashboards and visualizations that provide Legal and Compliance teams with a clear view of the relevant risk posture.

    • Maintain strict data lineage documentation to ensure all reporting is traceable and audit-ready.

  • Data Quality & Governance

    • Act as an owner of compliance data used for automated monitoring and visualization; implement automated testing and validation frameworks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data used for regulatory reporting.

    • Collaborate with Data Governance teams to classify sensitive data and ensure appropriate access controls and retention policies are defined.

  •  Audit Support & Forensics

    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact during internal and external audits, providing query logic, data samples, and evidence of system controls.

    • Perform ad-hoc data forensics to support investigations into potential incidents or irregular activities.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work with cross-functional teams, including engineering, and legal departments, to ensure data-driven compliance strategies are implemented effectively.

    • Bridge the gap between non-technical stakeholders and engineering teams, translating business risks into technical data requirements.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • 6+ years in Software / Data Engineering

  • 2+ years of successful experience with Collibra products or alternate catalogue (Alation,Informatica), doing integrations is a huge plus

  • Self-driven learner, capable to proactively connect with many other teams to understand the user flows and technical integrations

  • High level of ownership and responsibility

  • Attention to detail

  • Preferably a university degree in Mathematics or Software Engineering.

  • Excellent communication: written and spoken (with English as the main language across the organisation).
