Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Milk Technicians in the NICU are responsible for critical measurement and mixing of infant formula based on respective physician orders for the entire pediatric hospital in addition to performing same skills in the NICU. Role is responsible for adding various additives, calculating and dividing feedings appropriately for all babies receiving breast milk and/or donor milk.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for precise and specific measurement and mixture of formula daily
  • Responsible for daily management of breast milk supply for respective patient population
  • Routinely ensures proper preparation for the timely thawing of needed milk supplies. This includes adhering to hospital guidelines for storage, temperature monitoring and expiration dates, daily
  • Utilizes specific mathematical skills and appropriate spreadsheets to calculate and measure for additives in the milk, i.e. protein, iron, calories, daily
  • Calculates and divides milk into individual feeds while assuring proper adherence to milk supply to properly manage and plan for waste avoidance, daily
