The Customs Team Lead will lead the Customs Team in our daily execution goals, resolution of customs-related issues, and adherence to customs programs and procedures. The incumbent will effectively translate all customs related issues, client needs and organizational capabilities into functional and nimble programs and procedures. This will result in an environment of continuous improvement in service to our clients and drivers alike, providing an ongoing competitive advantage for the company in this area.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Advise on, develop, and implement customs policies and procedures aligned with Canada and U.S. regulations.
- Maintain a strong understanding of cross-border customs programs and their implications for the company, drivers, and clients.
- Provide day-to-day support for customs issues, contraventions, and program requirements.
- Recommend improvements to customs programs by identifyig risks, trends, and opportunities.
- Communicate customs policies, procedures, and program goals clearly to all affected groups.
- Monitor and evaluate customs performance through data analysis, identifying issues and proposing solutions.
- Lead the execution of all border‑crossing processes and provide guidance to teams involved in customs transactions.
- Assess training needs and develop materials to support office staff and drivers in performing border-related functions.
- Deliver training and follow up to ensure processes are being followed as designed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Canada and U.S. Customs authorities, customs brokers, and industry organizations.
- Advocate for the company’s position on regulatory matters and negotiate settlements when required.
- In coordination with the Manager, support employee performance through regular one‑on‑one meetings and ensure team members have the tools and training needed.
- Manage customs team scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for business needs.
- Perform additional duties and support projects as required.
Out Ideal Candidate will possess:
- 1-3 years of experience in customs operations or a related transportation/logistics environment.
- 1-3 years of experience in leading or mentoring a team.
- Strong understanding of company policies, procedures, objectives, and culture, with the ability to apply them effectively.
- Working knowledge of Canada and U.S. Customs regulations within the transportation industry.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, including identifying issues, assessing root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
- Strong organizational skills, including time management, project planning, and process improvement.
- High attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
Shift: Monday to Friday, 07:30 - 16:30. Flexibility required depending on coverage needs.
