And our teams are constantly pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo in pursuit of a brighter future.</p> <p><strong>Job Summary</strong></p> <p>The Senior IoT Engineer plays a critical role in shaping technical direction, making high-impact decisions, and driving innovation across teams. This position exists to provide deep technical expertise, architectural leadership, and strategic guidance to influence product development, engineering standards, and operational efficiencies. The engineer is expected to tackle complex, cross-functional challenges, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions that align with business objectives. By collaborating closely with engineering leadership, mentoring team members, and fostering a culture of technical excellence, this role helps steer the organization towards long-term success while upholding Bird’s values and culture.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Design and develop scalable systems – Architect, implement, and optimize backend and infrastructure solutions to support business growth. Deliver at least one major feature or system enhancement per quarter that improves performance, scalability, or maintainability</li> <li>Collaborate cross-functionally to drive impactful solutions – Work with product, data, and infrastructure teams to design and implement solutions that align with business needs. Provide actionable recommendations and technical feasibility assessments within agreed timelines</li> <li>Ensure system reliability and operational efficiency – Monitor and improve system health, proactively addressing performance bottlenecks and outages. Reduce system downtime by at least 5% annually through incident resolution and preventative measures.</li> <li>Mentor and develop engineering talent – Provide code reviews, technical guidance, and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. Conduct at least one structured knowledge-sharing session per quarter and set individual development goals for mentees.</li> <li>Optimize and enhance development processes – Improve CI/CD pipelines, automate deployments, and implement best practices to increase engineering efficiency. Reduce manual operational workload by at least 10% per year through automation.</li> <li>Contribute to Bird’s technical roadmap – Partner with engineering leadership to propose and advocate for at least two technical initiatives per year that align with long-term strategic goals.</li> <li>Lead technical problem-solving efforts – Tackle high-impact engineering challenges, conduct post-mortems, and implement long-term fixes. Reduce repeat incidents by 15% annually through improved monitoring, alerting, and root cause analysis.</li> <li>Champion Bird’s engineering culture and values – Act as a role model for technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
