About this role

About the Role:

This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2026. Resume review begins in January 2026.

The Business Operations Team serves as the strategic and operational backbone of the West Coast Hub, ensuring the seamless execution of clinical development and translational science. Our mission is to bridge the gap between high level strategy and daily execution across four core pillars: Technology & Analytics, Contractual Infrastructure, External Alliances, and Organizational Advocacy. Through targeted software solutions, robust site and investigator agreement management, and the cultivation of high‑impact academic and biotech partnerships, we provide the infrastructure and advocacy necessary to accelerate Biogen’s mission and deliver life‑changing therapies.

What You’ll Do:

As a Business Operations Intern within the West Coast Hub (WCH), you will work at the intersection of pharmaceutical development and technological innovation, directly contributing to this mission. Reporting to the Manager of Business Operations & Analytics, you will help build the digital infrastructure that enables our clinical teams to operate efficiently and effectively. This is not a shadowing role, you will own end‑to‑end projects requiring a blend of data analysis, process mapping, and cross‑functional collaboration. Throughout the internship, you will gain a deep understanding of the drug development lifecycle while learning to navigate the complex governance and contractual frameworks of a global biopharmaceutical organization. Your work will center around three primary projects, each designed to provide exposure to clinical operations, data workflow optimization, and webpage development, alongside support of general operational tasks

Detailed description of role including but not limited to:

  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Data Wrangling & Content Curation
  • Build and iterate in M365
  • Process Mapping
  • Project Management

Example projects may include:

  • Clinical Development Process Mapping
  • Workflow Automation using Power Automate
  • Webpage creation using SharePoint

Who You Are:

Technical Skills & Digital Fluency

  • Microsoft 365 Power User: Proficiency in SharePoint Online (building and designing sites, not just uploading files) and the Microsoft Power Automate for creating workflows.
  • Data Visualization: Ability to organize messy data into clean, visual formats (e.g., using Excel, Power BI, or SharePoint lists) to create user friendly dashboards.
  • Process Mapping Tools: Familiarity with workflow visualization software such as Visio, Lucidchart, or Miro (or the ability to create professional process flows within PowerPoint).

Analytical & Strategic Mindset

  • Structured Problem Solving: Ability to take a vague "business need" and break it down into a logical, step-by-step process or technical solution.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in data entry and formatting to ensure that internal newsletters and dashboards are "executive ready."
  • Independent Project Management: Proven ability to work autonomously, manage multiple timelines (short, mid, and long-term), and know when to "raise their hand" for feedback versus when to drive a project forward.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Stakeholder Interviewing: Comfortable reaching out to team members to gather information for process maps or partnership data.
  • Content Curation: Strong writing and editing skills to help draft and format a professional departmental newsletter.

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PHD in a relevant field such as:

  • Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems
  • Health Informatics
  • Biology, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences
  • Engineering (Biomedical, Systems, or Industrial Engineering)

Coursework or prior project experience in data analysis, process improvement, technical tools, or operations is strongly preferred.

Familiarity with the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare research environment is a plus but not required.
