About this role

About This Role:
As the Head of Clinical Trial Delivery, you will play a pivotal role in the Leadership Team for Quantitative Sciences & Development Operations (QSDO). You will lead the charge in clinical trial delivery across all Biogen Disease Areas, taking broad responsibility for a diverse portfolio of clinical programs in Neuroscience, Rare Disease, and MS/Immunology therapeutic areas, alongside Real World Evidence. This role is crucial in providing strategic operational leadership to optimize the execution of clinical trials and programs. You will have the opportunity to participate in decision-making bodies and contribute to strategic plans, developing strong relationships with multiple stakeholders across Biogen. Accountable for setting and executing the clinical operational strategic direction for all programs, you will ensure excellence in high-quality delivery to budget. Your leadership will also encompass developing robust oversight mechanisms and consistently driving efficient processes with your Clinical Trial Delivery team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee clinical trial delivery for Neuroscience, Rare Disease, and MS/Immunology therapeutic areas.
  • Provide strategic operational leadership for planning and delivering Biogen’s clinical trial portfolio.
  • Drive operational excellence and innovation in clinical trial execution.
  • Collaborate with Development Unit Heads and other functional leaders across R&D and beyond.
  • Set and execute clinical operational strategic direction for all therapeutic areas and Real-World Evidence.
  • Manage resource allocation, including a budget of ~ 30M and clinical trial budget accountability of 300M.
  • Lead a team of approximately 75 FTEs, including line managers and clinical operations program leads.
  • Develop and maintain oversight mechanisms for study delivery, agnostic of the sourcing model.
  • Evaluate and navigate key business challenges for QSDO operational delivery.
  • Support long-term innovation and deploy solutions to optimize clinical trial delivery.
  • Represent the Clinical Trial Delivery function in senior executive forums.

You are a seasoned leader with a strategic mindset and a passion for clinical development. Your ability to collaborate across functions and influence strategic plans is unmatched. You excel in environments with some degree of ambiguity, navigating challenges with independence and prioritizing effectively. Your executive presence and strong communication skills enable you to represent your function confidently at senior management levels. You are committed to continuous improvement and innovation, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Required Skills:

  • 15+  years of experience in clinical development and clinical operations disciplines with a focus on immunology.
  • Proven ability to lead a team of 25+ line employees.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment, including GCP and clinical trial regulations.
  • Proven experience in R&D project leadership and leading complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Executive presence and the ability to represent functions in senior executive forums.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in global cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deliver results independently.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience leading initiatives across multiple phases of development.
  • Strong strategic planning and influencing capabilities.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $342,000.00-$496,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
