About this role

About the Role:

This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2026. Resume review begins in January 2026.

The Genomics and Computational Biology team performs high-quality computational analyses on genomics/transcriptomics datasets, develops robust NGS data analysis pipelines, and evaluates cutting edge computational tools and technologies. Using such approaches, we collaborate closely with all discovery teams across Research to address critical drug development questions related to target identification and validation, drug mechanism of action, and the underlying disease biology. Data types frequently analyzed within our group include RNAseq, miRNAseq, sc/snRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics derived from patient tissues and model systems.

What You’ll Do:

As a computational biology co-op, you will:

  • Analyze cutting-edge high-throughput sequencing datasets, such as single-cell RNA-seq, CITE-seq, Perturb-seq, etc.
  • Apply state-of-the-art AI/ML models to analyze complex datasets generated from perturbation assays and human tissue samples
  • Develop web-based tools to enable broad access and flexible visualization of these datasets
  • Attend scheduled group meetings to present the findings and share insights
  • Provide regular updates on the progress and participate in the co-op poster presentation

Example projects may include:

  • Atlas-level harmonization of single-cell RNA-seq data generated from various studies
  • Evaluation of existing AI/ML models to assess their performance in modeling high-throughput sequencing datasets, such as Perturb-seq
  • In-depth modeling of large-scale omics data to enable virtual gene perturbation outcome predictions and support novel biomarker discovery in certain disease areas
  • Development of web-based platforms or specialized AI agents to enhance interactive data visualization and interpretation.

Who You Are:

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong coding skills in Python, R and other data visualization tools
  • Hands-on experience in computational analysis of large-scale single-cell RNA-seq data
  • Expertise in developing AI/ML models for omics datasets
  • Experience with LLMs and agentic AI, and their applications in complex data processing

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship.

Education Requirements

  • Currently pursuing PhD in Computational biology, Computer science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related field.
