Pay Range:

$16.80 - $23.10

All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided for the internship program at this time.

Pay Rate: $18 per hour

Position Summary:

We seek a creative individual to assist in development and deployment of engineering solutions for Bio-Techne manufacturing, particularly for inventory management and fill/finish operations.  The intern project can be tailored to the intern’s interests that align with Bio-Techne's engineering needs.  Primary proposed project includes expanding the use of custom in-house RFID & barcoding scanners to streamline inventory processes.  The RFID/barcode project will involve expanding existing custom scanners and integrating other technologies (i.e. e-ink tags, etc) and will use electronics, microcontroller programming, 3D design/3D printing and process evaluation.  A secondary project is for expanding in-house particle mitigation of glass vials using pneumatic devices.   The particle mitigation project will involve engineering 3D design, manufacturing/assembly, process development and testing/validation to use clean air to eliminate incoming debris or contamination.  The Process Engineering team works across the organization to solve problems and find novel automation & engineering solutions to challenges.  Depending on the intern’s interest and experience, projects could also involve Proteins, Antibodies, Immunoassays, Cell Culture and more.

The expectation is for this position to work on-site at our Minneapolis location for this internship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine design requirements, existing and proposed processes to propose solutions and implement

  • Design customized equipment using 3D modeling software such as Fusion 360 for rapid prototyping and 3D printing

  • Programming of interface electronics (CircuitPython, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Microcontroller, etc) and implementation of off-the-shelf RFID and barcoding breakout boards. 

  • Fabrication and assembly of prototype or production devices using a combination of off-the-shelf hardware and custom fabricated materials

  • Work with minimal continuous supervision with drive to make regular progress towards project goals

  • Document work, record progress and report back on regular basis

  • Present project status/accomplishments at final internship presentation to the company

 Program Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship

  • Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college

  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program

Experience Qualifications:

  • Automation, robotics or other electromechanical experience is a plus

  • Programming experience is a plus, but use of AI or other assistive technologies is encouraged

  • Interest in process, automation, electronics and robotics is a plus

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
