Senior Backend Engineer

Billys is a rapidly growing startup in the Building Management SaaS sector. We focus on providing seamless solutions for tenants, owners, and building managers, utilising a cutting-edge tech stack including Node, Express, React, and MongoDB. Our platform already serves clients in multiple languages and is positioned for further international expansion.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our development team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the backend services and APIs that power our platform. You will work closely with the CTO and frontend engineers to deliver scalable, performant, and secure solutions.

You are obsessive about efficiency and layered architectures and have a feel for concurrency and scalability best practices.

Node.js and MongoDB? They’re like your right and left arms.

You value clean code and are meticulous about version control.

You are passionate about building solutions, not just tools, and lean into delighting hard-to-please users.

You’ll be working on the “core engine” of our product. You’ll develop new features in a cross-functional team with other highly skilled team members.

You’ll incrementally create new API endpoints, integrate with 3rd-party systems and develop new back-end features which will help drive our business towards an ambitious vision.

Establish testing protocols for critical components.

Act as the steward of backend architecture, server deployment, and scaling.

Take technical responsibility for key areas of backend development, where you will influence decisions around tooling, architecture and Agile processes.

At least 5 years of backend development, preferably with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB.

Demonstrable expertise in crafting RESTful APIs.

Solid understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven development.

Expert knowledge of git, git branching, and the PR procedure.

Great communication skills and working ethos.

Experience in Agile methodologies and their lifecycle.

Experience with Payment systems integrations is a strong plus

Experience working in Proptech or Real Estate a strong plus

Familiarity with Clean Architecture.

Familiarity with Digital Ocean and Grafana (or similar services) is a plus.
