Job Description:
The Laboratory Supervisor for the freestanding Emergency Department, Urgent Care, and Outpatient phlebotomy services, is a working supervisor who provides Technical Consultant responsibilities and day-to-day operational oversight while actively performing clinical laboratory testing. This role ensures timely, accurate testing to support patient care, maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and leads assigned laboratory staff through effective staffing coordination, performance management, and clinical leadership. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, developing, disciplining, engaging, and evaluating employees.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, or higher, in a chemical, physical or biological science or Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution required. Education and training equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology: a. Education: 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of Medical Laboratory Technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (6 hours of chemistry; 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, or any combination). b. Training: either completion of an approved/accredited clinical laboratory training program, which may be included in the 60 semester hours specified above or at least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
Must have at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing, in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service for which the technical consultant is responsible.
2+ years of Leadership experience, managing, planning and executing activities; including project management, establishing performance metrics, and employee engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
