About the Role

 

The Project Learner role is an exciting, entry-level opportunity designed to create meaningful pathways for people eager to learn, grow and begin their careers in BHP Minerals Australia Projects. We have multiple Project Learner opportunities located across Adelaide, Perth and, Port Hedland, supporting both Major Projects and Asset Projects across our Western Australia Iron Ore and Copper South Australia assets.

 

As a Project Learner you will take part in a structured development journey where Learners gain hands-on experience working on real projects while completing their Learner Logbook in full. Project Learners will also complete a Certificate IV in Project Management Practice as part of the program.

 

In this program, you will:  

 

  • Gain exposure to real project work across a variety of lifecycle stages  
  • Learn how major capital and asset projects are planned, executed, and monitored  
  • Support project teams with administrative, coordination, and operational tasks  
  • Receive mentoring, coaching, and regular development check-ins  
  • Build foundational skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving, and safety  
  • Participate in both office-based and site-based activities

 

On successful completion of the program, Project Learners will have:

 

  • Completed the Project Learner Logbook 
  • Achieved a Certificate IV in Project Management Practice 
  • Built foundational capabilities to work effectively in project environments 
  • Developed strong working relationships across the business 
  • Be ready to step into a role supporting a Major or Asset Project 

 

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:  

 

  • Uphold the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct and all safety requirements  
  • Demonstrate commitment to health, safety, environment and sustainable development  
  • Support your host department with day-to-day project activities
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members 
  • Travel to site to support learning and project activities 
  • Complete all tasks associated with the Minerals Australia Projects Learner Program including log book and the Certificate IV in Project Management 
  • Write structured documents to communicate requirements and/or decisions to management and engineering stakeholders
  • Seek and participate in development opportunities  
  • Apply training, feedback, and new skills to your work  
  • Contribute your ideas, curiosity, and unique perspectives to the team   

 

About You

 

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

 

  • Completion of prior tertiary study (any discipline) OR exposure to work experience in any industry, with technical disciplines preferred
  • Completed High School Certificate, Certificate Qualification (Cert II or more) Trade or other preferred but not mandatory 
  • Have strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Customer‑focused, with a positive approach to working with others 
  • A clear communicator, both verbally and in writing (e.g., email communication, simple reporting) 
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to develop new skills 
  • Demonstrate curiosity, strong learning agility and good listening skills 
  • A collaborative team player who can build positive working relationships 
  • Organised, with strong attention to detail 
  • Committed to working safely 
  • Demonstrated work experience in any industry 
  • Ability to travel to site is required
