At BetterHelp, you’ll carve your own path, make an immediate impact, and be challenged every day – with a supportive community behind you the whole way.

What are we looking for?

BetterHelp is changing the way it tests its software. We’re looking for a detail oriented QA engineer to join our established Software Quality Assurance team—a group that is passionate about quality and dedicated to delivering reliable, user-centered products.

As part of an agile development team, you’ll have the opportunity to test a wide variety of features across our platform. You’ll help define and perform the tests necessary to ensure that our products meet the high standards we set for quality. Rather than simply executing pre-written tests, you’ll contribute to designing the best strategies for testing the features within your area of responsibility.

You’ll also bring a strong understanding of test case design, regression strategies, and bug lifecycle management, and you’ll be comfortable collaborating cross-functionally to support product excellence.

What will you do?

Determine the best test strategy for assigned areas of test, whether it be manual or automated testing

Write clear and concise test plans, test cases, and bug reports

Collaborate closely with developers and product managers

Lead testing for small to medium features (e.g., 2-point Jira cards) independently

Mentor junior QA team members and help them expand their product and technical knowledge

Research test tools, methodologies, and trends to improve existing practices and processes

Run, maintain, and troubleshoot existing automated tests in Playwright, partnering with QA teammates to improve test reliability and coverage

What will you NOT do?

You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.

You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.

You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!

You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.

Requirements

At least 3 years of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) experience

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Previous experience working in an Agile development environment

Strong understanding of QA best practices

Proficiency in test case design, test coverage strategies, and regression testing

Comfortable with SQL and relational databases

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Passionate about quality and continuous improvement

Bonus (Great to have but not required)

Experience in localization testing

Mobile testing experience

Accessibility testing experience

Automated testing using Playwright

Benefits

Remote work with regular in-person bonding experiences sponsored by the company

Competitive compensation

Holistic perks program (including free therapy, employee wellness, and more)

Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage

401k benefits with employer matching contribution

The chance to build something that changes lives – and that people love

Any piece of hardware or software that will make you happy and productive

An awesome community of co-workers

The base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $130,000.
