MRI TECHNOLOGIST - FULL TIME!

The ideal availability would be Friday/Saturday/Sunday

Job Description:

Review the MRI order and confirm the exam, indications and protocol are correct.  

Will obtain and document any relevant MRI safety information from patient, family, health care proxy and health care providers along with medical history.  

Confirm the patient’s name, date of birth, medical record and MRI exam ordered for each patient.   

Command safe entry to the MRI unit for non-MRI personnel and is responsible for maintaining a safe MRI environment.   

Screen patients for MRI safety and are responsible for patient positioning, coil and protocol selection.  

Performs proper venipuncture with sterile technique.  

Administers IV contrast agents.   

Maintains BLS/CPR certification.  

Documents all information involving the use of IV and oral contrast in Epic.  

Exercises independence, sound judgement, creativity and initiative while working in stressful or high-pressure situations.  

Will prepare and clean all necessary equipment as well as the scan room before and after each patient.  

Performs daily or weekly quality assurance and verifies the safe operation of the MRI unit and other peripheral equipment used by the technologist, including allergic reaction kit and Stroke Pager.  

Informs the supervisor or team leader of any equipment needing repairs or service. 

Operates MRI console and selects the appropriate patient, protocol as well as selection of designated body part(s). Utilizes various peripheral hardware and software to assist in completion of the MRI exam. Assess patient's condition during the exam and ensure ability of patient to continue with the exam 100% of the time.  

Properly evaluate images and recognizes anatomy and pathology and the potential need to alert the radiologist for additional imaging or urgent findings. 

Transfers images to PACS and CADSTREAM when exam is complete, confirm that all images are received, processed and that they include the proper patient demographics as well as accession number with 100% accuracy.   

Begin and end all MRI exams using Epic with 100% accuracy.  

Uses Epic to schedule, arrive, complete and send all patient and MRI exam information. 

Scans any relevant documents into Epic media manager.   

Works with supervisor, team leader, service coordinators and colleagues to ensure proper utilization of MRI scanners. 

Assists with front desk duties when needed due to staffing issues or concerns in order to provide continued patient centered care.  

Burn and deliver a CD for the patient when requested.   

Will be expected to train and instruct MRI technologists as well as students on MRI and other peripheral equipment.   

Rotates within department and offsite location by shifts as required and needed; cooperates with all personnel while promoting cohesion and professionalism within the department.   

Treats colleagues with dignity and respect and reports any issues to the supervisor.  

Incorporates Mount Auburn guiding principles, mission statement and goals into daily activities.  

Complies with all Mount Auburn policies.  

Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Mount Auburn. 

Participates in department quality improvement initiatives.   

Meets both state and national requirements for continuing education credits. 

Performs all other duties as required and directed by the supervisor, director or chairman of the MRI department. 

Call and holiday coverage is required.  

MRI technologists are expected to arrive within 1 hour of being notified of an urgent request by the on-call radiologist.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Associates Degree required.   

Basic Life Support required.  

Must be a graduate of an AMA approved Radiology Technology Program; and be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or equivalent.  

Be registered or eligible for certification in MRI by the American Registry of Radiologic  

  

Technologists or equivalent. Must meet, successfully complete and maintain the ARRT or equivalent certification and registration within 1 year of start of employment. 

1-3 years' experience as a Radiologic technologist preferred with at least 1 year in a specialty such as CT scan.    

License in Radiography by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 

Awareness of the potential hazards within the magnetic field, standard precautions, etc., and adhere to the safety standards established by Mount Auburn.   

Proficiency in cross sectional anatomy, the use of power injectors, venipuncture or in the absence of this skill the ability to be trained to a level of competency.   

Must be proficient in MRI magnet safety. 

Computer and PACS knowledge.  

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft applications which include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.  

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Call and holiday coverage is required.  

MRI Technologists are expected to arrive within 1 hour of being notified of an emergent request by the on-call radiologist.  

Exposure to magnetic fields and radio frequencies.   

Exposure to human waste and blood borne pathogens.  

Exposure to cold temperatures and noise.  

Subject to stressful situations and the need to work with minimal staff on an emergent basis but still within ACR guidelines.   

This position requires standing, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching above the head, moving quickly about the department and hospital and lifting upwards of 50lbs more than 75% of the time. 

 

 

Pay Range:

$48.00 - $71.33

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
