Job Summary: The Pharmacy Direct Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the quality assurance of the provided pharmacy services. Ensures the correct medications are dispensed to the correct patients efficiently and safely as promised. Medication compliance monitoring, chronic disease state management, patient consultation, and provider communications are a part of daily tasks. This position is a part of the interdisciplinary team that includes all pharmacists (i.e., clinical, production, and retail), certified pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns, technician supervisors, mail, and delivery department managers.<br><br>

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Fills prescriptions, resolves discrepancies in patient therapy, and follows-up on problems. Utilizes clinical data in evaluating physician orders to ensure appropriate therapy.
  2. .Provides and documents drug information and patient counseling. Documents interventions, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and medication errors.
  3. Directs and utilizes personnel including technicians, aides, and clerical staff.
  4. .Maintains adequate medication supply in the individual work area. Participates in Pharmacy staff in-services and meetings relating to system-wide and/or health care setting programs.
  5. .Operates and troubleshoots automated dispensing systems, as needed. Advises prescribers on alternatives for non-formulary drugs.
  6. Utilizes Outpatient and/or Inpatient computerized systems to enter and access patient care information.
  7. Participates in quality management and utilization review programs.
  8. May coordinate the work of a small group to accomplish a project or assignments, review of policies and procedures or standard operating procedures.
  9. May assist in the development, implementation, and execution of the pharmacy staff training curriculum.
  10. Participate in the orientation and training of new pharmacists, certified pharmacy technicians, and/or pharmacy interns. May be asked to cross cover or perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree required. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.
  2. License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.
  3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
  4. Basic understanding of insurance and adjudication processes.
  5. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in retail, mail order, or academic outpatient pharmacy experience.
  2. Pharmacy management experience.
  3. Knowledge of inventory processes.

  4. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  7. Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
Age based Competencies:
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus

 

 

Pay Range:

$123,760.00 USD - $166,566.40 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
