Your role at BHSN:

The Open Access Clinician is a licensed clinician who provides initial assessment and clinical treatment recommendations to clients. This clinician functions as a member of the treatment team, providing in person and telehealth services including assessments, individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy as appropriate to the assigned program. At the discretion of the program director, this clinician may be assigned to train or supervise other staff as deemed appropriate.  

Assigned clinical programs may include, but are not limited to, Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinics, School-Based Services, Crisis Services, Substance Use Services, and Rehabilitative Programs.

What your day might look like:

  • Conducts initial evaluations and identifies critical impairments that become the focus of treatment form effective planning and implementation of treatment;
  • Documents all aspects of the evaluation and treatment process to facilitate client care, effective treatment coordination, and ensure regulatory compliance;  
  • Maintains a caseload of individual clients for solution focused services.
  • Provides clinical treatment including individual, family, and group therapies, and crisis intervention services as clinically indicated to support positive treatment outcomes for each person served in accordance with the treatment plan;  
  • Develops clear treatment strategies based on specific needs of each consumer and composes a formal treatment plan to the treatment team and client;
  • Coordinates treatment with other behavioral health services, other providers, probation, parole, including facilitating referrals for inpatient treatment to maximize quality and effectiveness of care while observing all laws, regulations, and policies regarding confidentiality;  
  • As needed, sees individuals who are an immediate crisis to reduce emergency visits and/or inpatient admissions;
  • Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities;      
  • Documents all services in accordance with Federal/State regulations and BHSN policies and procedures;
  • Maintains client confidentiality and confidential health information;  
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Your skills and qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work; LMHC or LCSW license required    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively as well as to organize tasks.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team until collaborate across disciplines and programs.  Knowledge of substance abuse issues including features of alcohol and various drug abuse signs and symptoms, intervention strategies, awareness of associated medical concerns. 
  • Individual, family, and group therapy skills. 
  • Ability to conduct clinical interviews and assess mental status. 
  • Valid NYS driver's license and reliable transportation may be required for local and regional travel
