Academic Req: Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or related field.
Work experience: Experience working with vulnerable youth, survivors, or trauma-impacted populations.
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory capacity through academics or professional experience.
Summary: The Advocate Supervisor Intern supports program leadership in overseeing survivor advocacy services within BCFS HHS – Common Thread – TX. This role is designed for an emerging professional who is actively pursuing graduate education and professional licensure in a human services field. The intern will assist with supervisory functions, quality assurance monitoring, compliance oversight, and case guidance for advocates serving survivors of human trafficking and youth with complex trauma histories.
This position provides structured mentorship and hands-on supervisory experience to support future leadership and clinical roles in trauma-informed service settings.
Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables:
1. Support compliance with all federal and state regulations
2. Monitor advocate casework quality and service plans
3. Assist in identifying trends and training needs
4. Support safety and permanency decisions under supervision
5. Ensure consistent engagement with children and families
6. Participate in community collaboration and relationship building
7. Support adherence to travel and safety protocols
8. Review records and reports for documentation accuracy
9. Provide guidance and coaching to advocate staff
10. Report safety concerns immediately
11. Participate in program meetings, supervision, and trainings
12. Supervisory Support:
• Assist with supervision and mentoring of advocates and interns
• Support onboarding and performance coaching
• Assist in workflow distribution and monitoring
13. Advocacy & Case Oversight:
• Support complex case coordination and care coordination
• Assist with referrals and service planning oversight
• Serve as liaison with shelters, courts, and community partners
14. Administrative Duties:
• Monitor compliance with documentation and deadlines
• Support data reviews and reporting accuracy
• Assist in continuous program improvement efforts
15. Operational Expectations
• Travel as required between service locations
• Flexible availability including evenings/weekends as needed
• Maintenance of professional and ethical standards
• Respectful communication with clients and partner agencies
16. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
17. Maintain BCFS HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in BCFS System employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and always complying with required dress code.
18. Participate in weekly supervision with assigned supervisor
19. Participate in workshops, seminars, education programs and other activities that promote professional growth and development
20. Travel across regions required (50%)
