Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Pharmacy Technician/Medication History Specialist

SCHEDULE:

  • Per diem hours

LOCATION:

  • 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma, GED or HiSet
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician License for State of Massachusetts
  • PTCB - National Certification is required for Acute Care
  • Minimum of 3-6 months pharmacy technician (acute/retail setting) experience required
  • Experience with medication names, their uses, doses and routes of administration is strongly preferred.
  • Possesses excellent communication/interpersonal skills, excellent computer skills and the ability to use various software applications, and excellent patient interview skills.  Must be able to work independently and utilizes critical thinking skills and effectively time management skills to prioritize tasks.

What you will do

Under the supervision of the care team pharmacist, the pharmacy technician/medication history specialist, interviews patients and reviews medication-related documentation for the purpose of compiling a medication history for patients being admitted to Baystate Medical Center. Compiled history information is entered into the patients electronic health record for the purpose of facilitating medication reconciliation by the admitting provider. May perform a variety of functions which impact the medication reconciliation process and patient care.

Pharmacy technicians, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in various activities of the pharmacy department. Through the leadership of the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and Assistant Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services, the pharmacy technician is responsible for the essential functions and responsibilities outlined in this document, noting every employee is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned.  Leadership has the right to change or add to the job responsibilities based on changes in workflows or processes as necessary.

Employee is expected to: Obtain and maintain appropriate knowledge and understanding of Baystate Medical Center/Baystate Health (BH) Pharmacy Services. This knowledge includes the values, policies, and procedures of BMC/BH and BH Pharmacy Services.
