JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of Manager, Commercial Sterile Compounding, the Registered Pharmacy Technician assists with tasks within scope to ensure smooth operations within DPP business. While maintaining model standard of sterile Compounding, the Registered Pharmacy Technician, will ensure Sterile compounding is performed based on standard SOP including environmental monitoring.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the activities performed by the clean room technicians during sterile compounding to assure aseptic technique is respected.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the activities performed by the clean room technicians during cleaning and disinfection of controlled areas and equipment.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the DPP equipment and report any malfunction.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the cleaning and disinfection logs of DPP area
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the logs of the clean room activities in QUESS.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the logs of temperature sensors in CCSE, for both compounding equipment and equipment supporting compounding & respond to alerts.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for monitoring the cleanroom pressure, temperature, relative Humidity and respond to alerts.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible that packaging and dispensing of Final Sterile preparation is done after:
o confirming accuracy, completeness, and final check of compounded sterile products
o Checking the final compounded sterile product for the absence of particulate matter and container integrity
o Ensuring Final Sterile preparation(s) gets matched to the right delivery in good timing to shipping.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician assists the DPP manager (Manager, Commercial Sterile Compounding) and Sterile Compounding Supervisor in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician assists the DPP team in the preparation and labeling of medications as allowed by law.
· The Registered Pharmacy Technician must comply with the following:
i. Adherence to all relevant guidelines including the established Standard Operation procedures and all applicable regulatory requirements as set out by the Ontario College of Pharmacists
ii. Ensure safe and appropriate storage of medications, including ambient and cold chain products.
iii. Actively contribute to the ongoing review of policies and procedures as they pertain to DPP Operations.
· Maintain model standard of sterile Compounding in the Clean Room
· Maintain environmental monitoring.
· Perform glove fingertip sampling/ Media fill testing as required.
· Assist Sterile Compounding Supervisor in performing glove fingertip sampling/ Media fill for clean room technicians.
· Follow the operational workflow and assigned tasks.
· Assist the DPP Manager & Sterile Compounding Supervisor in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps).
· Assist the DPP team in performing physical count of medication and supplies, as needed.
· Assist the DPP team in inventory management.
· Monitor Clean room technicians performing sterility testing in accordance with policy, maintains appropriate documentation.
· Assist the Sterile Compounding Supervisor in issuing Certificate of analysis for Sterility testing.
· Perform Air sampling and Surface sampling as needed.
· Check the final product for the absence of particulate matter and container integrity and ensuring compounding product gets matched to the right delivery just prior to shipping.
· Conducts quality control.
· Assists the Pharmacist in preparing compounding sheets for the preparation of medication.
· Assists the Pharmacist in the preparation and labeling of medications as allowed by law.
Manage dispensing and shipping schedules.
· Documents appropriately according to P&Ps, all activities using required paperwork (logs)
· Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities education programs and department/branch meetings.
· Report any Sterile compounding related issues or deviation to the Sterile Compounding Supervisor
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Registered with the College of Pharmacists and in good standing
· Experience in a busy community pharmacy setting or specialty pharmacy setting is preferred.
Education
Education, Certificates and Experience
· Pharmacy Technician Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred
· Organized and disciplined; basic computer skills.
· The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
· The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to mix drugs, use computer and other equipment and reach with hands and arms.
· Vision requirements include close vision, colour vision, night vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
· Lifting required as per employee capacity; employee must notify Supervisor regarding any health issues that may affect ability to lift
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles
· The employee may be occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
· The employee occasionally works near moving parts The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate
