Position Summary:

Bayshore is seeking passionate and caring Developmental Services Worker- Mental Health and Addictions and be a part of a supportive and dynamic environment where you can truly make an impact. Availability Required:

  • Weekdays (Monday to Friday) Days and Evenings
  • Weekend Rotation (Saturday and Sunday) Days and Evenings

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Services: Deliver compassionate care according to the established care plan, ensuring the emotional, spiritual, and physical comfort and safety of our clients.
  • Personal Goals: Empower individuals by assisting and supporting them in developing and achieving their personal goals.
  • Daily Living Tasks: Provide comprehensive support with daily living tasks, including washing, dressing, eating, bathing, toileting, positioning, exercising, feeding, assisting with oxygen administration, and budgeting.
  • Client-Specific Procedures: Perform specialized procedures with confidence and competence, ensuring the highest standard of care.
  • Developmental Activities: Engage clients in activities that enhance their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
  • Observation and Documentation: Monitor and document the physical, developmental, and psychological needs of individuals, ensuring their well-being.
  • Facility Maintenance: Contribute to the smooth operation and maintenance of the residence/program facility.
  • Client Support: Offer guidance and support to clients, helping them explore options and develop actionable plans.
  • Progress Meetings: Regularly meet with clients to assess their progress, provide encouragement, and address any challenges.
  • Community Participation: Facilitate access to personal, social, recreational, and community activities that align with clients’ preferences and abilities.
  • Household Tasks: Assist with cooking, serving meals, cleaning, laundry, and other household tasks to create a comfortable living environment.
  • Companionship: Provide companionship and support during daily activities, fostering a sense of belonging and happiness.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medication as required, ensuring clients’ health and safety.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Secondary School graduate or equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited Developmental Services Worker Program or similar program

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable vehicle
  • Clear criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Proof of being free from TB
  • Valid CPR certification (CPR Level C or BLS)
  • Two supervisory references

 Experience

  • A minimum of one-year recent Development Services care experience in a similar position or life experience in which similar duties were completed.
  • Practical experience with mental health and addictions care.
  • Has solid knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of community nursing and the delivery of support service to clients.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English, French proficiency considered a strong asset.  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to stand, bend, squat, kneel and reach freely; able to freely lift 23 kilograms; able to assist clients with standing, walking, sitting and rolling in bed
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions as related to client care; able to travel locally from assignment to assignment.
