Job Description:

This research study is a partnership with Discipleship Ministries of The United Methodist Church to inform their new Lilly-funded project, Growing in Grace: Accessible Worship for All God’s Children. The purpose of the study is to examine the experiences and views of pastors and congregations related to the participation of children with disabilities in worship services and other church activities. We are looking for a research assistant to assist with two aspects of this project: (a) surveying congregation members in dozens of Methodist churches from across the country and (b) scheduling and supporting focus group interviews with pastor. We are looking for someone who is strong on initiative, can communicate effectively, and has meticulous attention to detail. Publication opportunities may be available. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Congregational Surveys
    • Communicating with interested churches to arrange survey completion
    • Setting up and replicating surveys in Qualtrics for each church
    • Creating recruitment materials for use by individual churches
    • Tracking survey completion and following up with churches
    • Preparing summary reports for churches
  • Focus Group Interviews
    • Helping schedule and recruit for focus group interviews
    • Taking notes during focus groups 
    • De-identifying and checking interview transcriptions
    • Contributing to data analysis 

 

  • May perform laboratory research
  • May participate in research activities
  • Adhere to and ensure safety procedures and precautions are followed
  • May research equipment maintenance and assist with maintaining lab equipment
  • May assist with documentation associated with research projects
  • May assist with or participate in carrying out experiments
  • May assist with managing laboratory inventory or supplies
  • May assist in preparing research reports
  • May assist with analyzing data, testing, and interpreting results
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission  
  • Ability to comply with University policies  
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
