Position Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Director of People & Culture to lead how we support, develop, and grow our teams across our hotels, spas, F&B outlets and corporate operations. This role will shape how we build people-focused systems as we scale, setting the roadmap for talent, culture, HR programs, leadership development, compensation, compliance and the overall employee experience across the company.

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000

Full-time/Permanent

Shifts: 8-hour/day 40 work week

Location: Canmore or Calgary corporate offices

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

PEOPLE STRATEGY & ORGANIZATIONAL PLANNING

  • Own and execute Basecamp/Everwild’s multi-year People & Culture strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals, operational realities, and future growth across hotels, spa operations, corporate teams, and staff housing.
  • Act as a senior advisor to the Executive Leadership Team on workforce strategy, organizational health, culture, leadership capability, and people-related risk.
  • Lead workforce planning across all departments and locations, including seasonal staffing, succession planning, and leadership pipeline development.
  • Design and continuously evolve organizational structures, role clarity, career paths, and development frameworks that support scale, accountability, and performance.
  • Anticipate future people needs and proactively build systems, roles, and programs to support Basecamp’s growth trajectory.

 

HR GOVERNANCE, RISK MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE

  • Provide oversight of employee relations, investigations, performance management, and complex people matters, serving as the senior escalation point.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta and British Columbia employment legislation, human rights obligations, immigration considerations, health & safety requirements, and staff accommodation-related regulations.
  • Establish and maintain HR governance frameworks, policies, and standards that reduce organizational risk and ensure consistent application across all properties and teams.
  • Partner with external legal counsel as required to manage risk and complex cases.
  • Ensure leaders are equipped to manage performance, conduct, and conflict effectively through coaching, tools, and clear expectations.

 

TALENT ACQUISITION & WORKFORCE PLANNING

  • Own Basecamp’s talent acquisition strategy across all functions and locations, ensuring the organization can attract and retain high-quality talent in competitive markets.
  • Oversee high-volume and specialized hiring cycles, ensuring recruitment processes are efficient, consistent, and aligned with operational needs.
  • Strengthen Basecamp/Everwild’s employer brand through recruitment marketing, partnerships, job fairs, and community engagement.
  • Ensure recruitment processes, candidate experience, and hiring practices support long-term retention and performance.

 

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & SYSTEMS

  • Own the design and governance of compensation structures, salary bands, job leveling, and progression frameworks across the organization.
  • Evaluate and enhance benefits, wellness programs, and leave frameworks to ensure competitiveness and alignment with employee needs.
  • Provide strategic oversight of HR systems (HRIS, payroll interfaces, reporting tools), ensuring data integrity, scalability, and effective use.
  • Deliver meaningful people analytics and insights to support executive decision-making.

 

CULTURE, ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Champion Basecamp/Everwild’s culture, values, and employee experience across all locations and teams.
  • Lead engagement strategies, employee surveys, and follow-up action planning to improve retention, performance, and workplace satisfaction.
  • Design and oversee leadership development initiatives that strengthen management capability and accountability at all levels.
  • Ensure recognition, communication, and engagement programs are aligned with organizational values and operational realities.

 

HEALTH, SAFETY & EMPLOYEE HOUSING OVERSIGHT

  • Provide strategic oversight of the organization’s health & safety program, ensuring governance, compliance, and alignment with operational practices across hotels and spa operations.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to support safety training, incident response frameworks, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide senior oversight of staff housing programs to ensure alignment with workforce needs, compliance requirements, employee experience, and operational efficiency.

 

PEOPLE & CULTURE TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the People & Culture team, ensuring strong performance, role clarity, and sustainable workload distribution.
  • Build a high-performing, service-oriented HR function that is trusted by leaders and employees across the organization.
  • Assess team capacity and structure, recommending changes or additional roles as the organization evolves.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development within the People & Culture team.

 

 Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including multi-site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of AB and BC employment laws, human rights and OHS frameworks.
  • Experience leading and scaling HR departments in hospitality, tourism, or fast-growth environments.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change and develop effective HR strategies.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience implementing HRIS systems (ADP, Dayforce, etc.) is an asset.
  • Ability to travel between properties in AB/BC as needed.
