The Database Administrator I performs a combination of administrative and technical duties in support of geology and geotechnical data systems. This role supports mission-critical datasets and applications and requires sound judgment, accuracy, initiative, and problem-solving skills while working on technically sophisticated assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of others 
  • Write and maintain T-SQL queries to import, extract, validate, and report data 
  • Manage and support relational, server-based SQL databases and associated data models 
  • Apply programming fundamentals and leverage at least one programming language to support database and reporting solutions 
  • Collaborate effectively with geologists, engineers, and technical specialists across the organization 
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders 
  • Organize work efficiently and prioritize activities to focus on highest-value outcomes 
  • Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills while working with minimal supervision 
  • Actively seek opportunities to improve data quality, system performance, and technical processes 
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data 
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools effectively to support reporting and analysis 
  • Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities listed are not all-inclusive

 

Essential Functions:

  • Administer and maintain MRM databases, including assay, geological, geotechnical, and spatial/location datasets 
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and reliability across all mission-critical departmental databases 
  • Provide expert technical assistance, user support, and training to database users and stakeholders 
  • Support data imports and exports for internal and external customers 
  • Install, configure, test, and validate new software versions to ensure compatibility with existing systems 
  • Maintain current documentation for in-house applications, data structures, and reporting processes 
  • Develop documentation and reporting artifacts for new applications and tools 
  • With training, initiate and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, system optimization, and software proficiency 
  • Develop and maintain digital archival systems for primary datasets, including assay certificates, downhole surveys, coordinates, and logging data 
  • Maintain, enhance, and evolve analytical tools and SharePoint environments to enable real-time reporting and rapid knowledge access 
  • Stay current on emerging database and analytics technologies and apply solutions that are fit-for-purpose within the mining and database analytics domains

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Database Management, or a related field OR a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in database administration, data management, or programming 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL programming and query development 
  • Solid understanding of database administration best practices and data governance 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies
  • Experience in C#, .NET (web-based), JavaScript, Python, SSRS and/or Visual Studio
  • Familiarity with acQuire data management software
  • Background or working knowledge in geology or mining-related disciplines
