The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mineral Resources as Mine Geologist- Open Pit

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist (Open Pit), the Mine Geologist is responsible for collecting, interpreting, and reporting geological data to support efficient and safe mining operations. This includes grade control, ore body interpretation, and liaising with mine planning and production teams to optimize ore recovery and minimize dilution. The role plays a critical part in the short-term and long-term success of mining activities.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct daily geological mapping, sampling and ore control in active open pit mining areas
  • Monitor ore and waste boundaries to ensure adherence to grade control plans
  • Assist in the design and execution of RC grade control drilling programs (e.g. Leapfrog, Vulcan).
  • Interpret geological data and produce models to support mine planning and forecasting
  • Collaborate closely with the mining, planning and processing teams to ensure proper material handling
  • Provide timely geological input for daily, weekly and monthly production reports
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for geological processes and systems
  • Maintain strong stakeholder engagement with internal departments and external partners.
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures. 

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field
  • 2-5 years’ experience in an open-pit and or underground mining environment
  • Proficiency in 3D geological modelling software (e.g., Vulcan, Leapfrog, Datamine or similar)
  • Familiar with RCGC drilling and QAQC sampling practices 
  • Experience with grade control systems and reconciliation process
  • Exposure to resource modelling and estimation techniques
  • Ability to shift priorities to respond to changing requirements
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental standards
  • Previous experience in a gold mining environment

Mobilization Requirement 

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.
