Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapy Student is responsible for performing multiple duties, including, but not limited to, patient care duties and additional duties that require expertise in the assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration, and troubleshooting of respiratory-related equipment. The Respiratory Therapy Student works under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapy Student is responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of equipment in various respiratory work areas and assisting the Respiratory Therapists and physicians with various procedures and tasks, as directed.
Essential Functions
• Students may perform patient care duties in accordance with state law.
• Maintain the supply of medical gas cylinders in the respiratory department and all related areas.
• Restocks supplies and retrieves equipment, as necessary.
• Maintains appropriate levels of equipment in the various respiratory care work areas.
• Performs routine assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of diverse types of respiratory care equipment.
• Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings/huddles.
• Completes required education and training as needed.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
• Consistently uses time and resources effectively and efficiently.
• Performs all other assigned duties.
Education/Training
• Respiratory Care student currently enrolled in a CoARC or successor Respiratory Care Program at a college or university.
• Maintain a status of good standing within the enrolled CoARC or successor Respiratory Care Program.
Licensure/Certification
• Maintains BLS / Healthcare provider certifications.
• Proof of continued enrollment in a CoARC-accredited program with no break in enrollment.
Experience
Concurrent enrollment in a CoARC or successor-approved Respiratory Therapy program, not to exceed their official Respiratory Program pinning ceremony.
