Primary Purpose

The Designer II will perform the less complex electric distribution system design, including relocation, extension, abandonment, and removal of facilities which requires the application of published standards and calculations using computer aided design and drafting methods. 


Primary Duties

  • Reviews plans of proposed construction by customers and outside agencies to determine the extent of interference with our existing or proposed facilities.
  • Performs necessary engineering required to determine project cost and required construction resources.
  • Determines specifications, materials, costs, customer charges, permitting, and right of way requirements and develops the necessary documentation and work management system input to meet all prerequisites for construction.
  • Executes contracts and performs field visits when appropriate.
  • Maintains customer contact (internal/external) throughout job to ensure mutually agreed upon commitments are met.
  • Negotiates scheduling commitments, permits, and permissions with customers and government agencies.
  • Coordinates job planning with field construction personnel for jobs designed; approves minor field changes; and coordinates and obtains necessary approvals for major changes.
  • Performs field location survey work and plots above, below, and proposed facilities to show their relationship.
  • Job duties may be electric distribution.
  • Work assignments and prerequisite skills depend upon the specific unit in which this position resides.
  • Subject to overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, and mechanical drawing necessary to create legible, accurate, and technically acceptable construction drawings. Familiarity with utility maps and records.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings, various corporate map records, and construction standards. Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Selection System Test.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Selection System Test.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards.
  • Ability to use personal vehicle on a regular basis for Company business.
  • May be required to become Notary Public in the State of Maryland, depending on specific assignment.
  • High School Diploma
  • Experience in the construction and installation of gas/electric/lighting facilities is required. Must have experience with utility processes, industry standards and codes. Experience or training in the utilization of CADD is required. In lieu of these requirements; the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience may be considered.
