Lead the Transport Operations That Keep Critical Defence Services Moving

The role

As a Transport Manager, you’ll be responsible for leading, managing and coordinating all Mechanical Transport (MT) activities at our Wyton site—ensuring a safe, compliant and high‑performing transport service to our customer. This is an opportunity to shape the way essential defence transport operations are delivered, drive innovation in working practices, and support an operation that has real impact on safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability. You’ll grow in a role that builds your leadership capability, strengthens your technical expertise, and contributes to a high‑performing Land & Aviation business unit.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

 

  • Manage, control and coordinate all transport operations and MT staff
  • Act as the named Transport Manager and CPC Holder for Babcock’s Passenger and Goods Vehicle Operator Licences
  • Ensure full compliance across all transport activities, standards and procedures
  • Drive innovation and improvements in working practices, operational efficiency and sustainability
  • Monitor, review and optimise fleet performance to meet operational and cost requirements.

 

This is a full‑time position working 39 hours per week and is based onsite at Wyton, with travel to Henlow one day per week.


Working hours: Monday–Thursday 08:00–17:00, Friday 08:00–16:00.

 

Essential experience of the Transport Manager:

  • Good knowledge of SHEF practices and procedures
  • Strong understanding of MS Office tools
  • Familiarity with Tri‑Service and/or MoD practices and completion of the MOD MT Managers Course
  • Proven managerial experience in a transport environment.

 

Qualifications for the Transport Manager:

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
  • Considerable experience in road transport management
  • Full clean UK driving licence.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
