The role

As a Technical Support Engineer, you’ll turn complex engineering information into clear, accurate parts data that keeps Royal Navy vessels and critical defence assets operating at their best.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be the go‑to specialist for item master data, part numbers and technical catalogues — interpreting drawings and manuals, validating specifications, advising procurement and supply chain teams, and helping to identify safe, cost‑effective alternatives to obsolete items.

 

  • Interpret engineering drawings, manuals and equipment specs to create and maintain accurate part records.
  • Validate technical information for inclusion in specifications and catalogues, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Advise procurement and supply chain on suitable parts, equivalents and risk/quality considerations.
  • Resolve internal and supplier queries, shaping clear, complete parts requests and documentation.
  • Improve data quality by cleansing descriptions, creating class templates and supporting category projects.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Technical Support Engineer

  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals and equipment specifications.
  • Hands‑on experience managing item master data, part numbers or technical catalogues.
  • Ability to analyse technical information, identify compliant alternatives and apply relevant MoD, national and international standards.
  • Strong IT skills with proficiency in parts databases and ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, IFS, Oracle).
  • Background supporting procurement or supply chain teams with technical queries and part validation.

 

Qualifications for the Technical Support Engineer

  • ONC (or equivalent) in a mechanical/electrical engineering discipline or time‑served engineering experience.
  • HNC or higher in engineering - Desirable

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
