The role
As a Project Cost Capability Lead, you’ll step into a role that’s anything but ordinary. This is a unique opportunity to shape a newly created position within a refreshed organisational structure, taking a leading role in driving delivery excellence. 

 

You’ll be part of Babcock Mission Systems, a specialist division delivering advanced engineering and technology solutions that support the UK’s defence capability, from naval platforms to secure communications. It’s a collaborative, fast-paced environment where innovation meets purpose, and where your expertise will help shape the future of national security.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll work with the other Discipline Leads to ensure best practice approaches, governance and techniques, in line with Group policies, are embedded as part of our local operating models and project delivery lifecycle, focusing on instilling strong foundations and forward looking, proactive approaches to delivery.

 

  • Lead and support a community of professionals specialising in cost management, including mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Lead to build a pipeline of suitably qualified and experienced cost management professionals aligned with delivery demand across the portfolio.
  • Responsible for leading the implementation of best practice cost management techniques and toolsets across the Mission Systems portfolio.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with up to 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Project Cost Capability Lead

  • Skilled in using or collaborating with teams using project and risk management software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Active Risk Manager, riskHive, Deltek Cobra, Safran, or Primavera Risk Analyser.
  • Experience of using ERP systems (SAP/IFS or similar is desirable).
  • Proven track record of leading cost management within complex projects and programmes involving technically advanced equipment or system delivery contracts.
  • Strong experience in applying robust project cost management and control techniques, including forecasting, performance reporting (e.g. Earned Value Management), and quantitative cost risk analysis.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and leadership abilities, with a proven capacity to engage effectively across a broad stakeholder community.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. However, the successful candidate will be able to start on Standard (BPPS) security clearance but will need to obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance once in post.
