The role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll take on a role that’s essential to supporting the Royal Navy’s fleet readiness. You’ll work at the heart of our Waterfront operations, carrying out mechanical fitting activities that keep complex engineering systems running safely, efficiently and reliably. This is a hands‑on engineering role where your work directly contributes to national security, protects communities and offers a career packed with challenge, purpose and progression.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance to support operational targets
  • Carrying out defect and repair activities on Waterfront mechanical systems and equipment
  • Working within Health & Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work and BM&T Clyde procedures
  • Operating Waterfront systems and equipment in line with relevant procedures
  • Suggesting improvements to systems and processes to drive safety and productivity.

 

 

 

This is a full‑time role, 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, giving you a three‑day weekend, based on site at Faslane.

 

 

 

Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:

  • Proven mechanical fitting experience
  • Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems and equipment
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Marine engineering background advantageous but not essential
  • Comfortable performing manual work, including lifting, bending and using tools.

 

 

 

Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:

 

Essential:

 

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in a mechanical discipline or equivalent

 

Preferred:

 

  • Additional mechanical or engineering‑related training or certifications.

 

 

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
