Your area of focus.

AutoCanada is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join our team. The Payroll accountant provides support to the payroll teams relating to pay and transaction impact to the general ledger, ensuring team members have an understanding of accounting processes relating to payroll transactions.

 

What drives your day-to-day?

  • Reconcile payroll taxes and reports
  • Review and monitor payroll fees
  • Prepare payroll related accruals (bonus, vacation pay) and liaise as appropriate with other accountants and Controllers
  • Reconcile key payroll clearing accounts
  • Reconcile benefits invoices
  • Monitor CRA and Revenue Quebec accounts 
  • Assist with Pier report review and response
  • Liaison for Payroll audits by internal or external auditors
  • Prepare various payroll related reports for management
  • Prepare remittance of payroll liability payments such WCB, EHT.
  • Prepare and process journals recording payroll entries
  • Perform internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external auditors
  • Prepare payroll related accounting entries
  • Prepare cross charges entries between the Corporate office and the dealerships.
  • Maintain the ADP General Ledger mapping 
  • Notify the Treasury department of required funding for the payroll
  • Process withholdings, garnishments, fringe benefits deductions like Pension contribution and GRSPs
  • Assist in budgeting fringe benefits costs
  • Ensure payroll and benefits expenses are properly allocated
  • Monitor liability accounts to promptly identify issues
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee data


 

What are the must-haves…

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential
  • Proficient in Excel (Pivot tables, Vlookup) and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role
  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or Finance or relevant related experience
  • Good knowledge of Personal income tax
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, energized, self-starter environment
  • Oracle and ADP WFN experience preferred, but not required
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting is preferred. 
  • Certification in payroll administration (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional) is a plus.
