Job Title: Legal Counsel, Employment & Litigation

Location: Preference for candidates located in the Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton or Calgary areas. This position is fully remote.

Position Overview: 


AutoCanada is publicly traded automotive dealership group with operations in eight provinces. Our organization employs several thousand team members in sales, service, parts, finance, and corporate functions, including both unionized and non-unionized employees. Reporting to the Managing Counsel, Employment Law, this position will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, HR, and operations, providing day-to-day legal guidance on employment and labour matters in a fast-paced, people-driven environment. This role is ideal for a lawyer who enjoys hands-on involvement with the business and delivering clear, commercially sound advice.

Although the position will focus primarily on employment law matters, the successful candidate will also assist with other litigation and regulatory matters.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a public company environment with national scope, providing exposure to senior leadership while contributing to the organization’s people strategy.

  

Requirements: 

  • 1-5 years of relevant post-call experience practicing employment law at a law firm and/or large corporation.
  • Ability to work very independently and collaboratively with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders is essential.
  • In addition to sound judgement, the ideal candidate must possess excellent analytical skills and strong business acumen as you will be working closely with various business groups
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, the Law Society of Alberta, OR the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks in a high-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset; however, it is not a requirement for the role.

The expected salary range for this position is $135,000 – $150,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a variety of factors, including job-related knowledge, education, skills and experience. This position will also be eligible to participate in the Company’s annual cash bonus program, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plan documents.
