Job Description

We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated entry level Life/Health Underwriter professional to join our team. The position requires the person to:

  • Review applications submitted for various life insurance products.
  • Analyze applications according to company philosophy and procedures in order to make underwriting decisions.
  • Effectively communicate with independent agents, Medical Director, and other Auto-Owners Associates, through verbal and/or written means.
  • Become familiar with company policies, manuals, forms and endorsements in order to understand their meaning and effective application.
  • Acquires a working knowledge of supporting sections of the life underwriting department.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent direct life insurance underwriting experience. All majors considered, but health related fields of study are preferred.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of medical terminology.
  • Ability to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independently
  • Above average communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to resolve complex issues
  • An interest in developing product knowledge through participation in approved educational programs
