He angitūtanga: The opportunity


As a Senior Structural Engineer, your role is critical in overseeing the technical processing and provision of advice for building consent applications.


You will provide structural engineering advice to ensure the delivery of customer-focused structural engineering regulatory reviews for building consents and related approvals, that achieves or exceeds statutory or customer service targets, thus ensuring compliance with the Building Act, Building Code and the Council’s engineering codes of practice.


You could also expect to work on:

  • providing specialist structural engineering design and design review services, construction monitoring and asset condition assessments to support the Council-wide asset owners’ group
  • providing invaluable technical support and mentoring to colleagues
  • assisting team leaders on specific projects
  • diligently managing escalated customer complaints and incidents with a focus on swift resolution and adherence to professional standards

 

Rigorous risk management practices will be integral to your approach, with any identified risks promptly reported and recorded for appropriate mitigation measures.

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

With a Bachelor of Engineering with a specialisation in Structural Engineering, you have strong experience in the structural engineering field.  You are a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accredited by Engineering New Zealand, or demonstrate equivalent capability to operate at the CPEng level.
 
We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

  • a deep understanding of New Zealand’s building legislation, including the Building Act, Building Code, Health and Safety at Work Act (2015), and relevant engineering standards and codes of practice
  • a strong background in design, peer review, seismic assessments and construction monitoring across residential, commercial and industrial projects
  • expertise in evaluating complex building consent applications and providing high-quality structural engineering advice
  • proficiency in relevant structural engineering software packages
  • excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service
