He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Regional Parks team is seeking a Senior Ranger to join the Northern Regional Parks team and lead the Community Portfolio. This key leadership role supports safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation and education while conserving and protecting natural and cultural heritage.

You will lead a team of Sector Rangers, providing guidance, coaching, and support to build capability. As part of the Senior Leadership Team involves building strong relationships with iwi, community groups, and stakeholders to improve community connection.

Leading our volunteer programmes, you will provide strategic direction and day‑to‑day oversight to ensure volunteers are engaged and able to make a meaningful contribution to park outcomes and community stewardship.

You can expect to work on:

• Regional priorities as part of the Senior Lead team and the Community Portfolio
• Coordinate resources across projects and portfolios, including budget management, work programming, and the allocation of people and equipment to deliver planned outcomes efficiently.
• Driving health and safety leadership across the sector
• Developing systems and processes for effective park operations and continuous improvement

The renumeration range for the role is between $88,528 – $104,150.

We are looking for:

• Tertiary Level 6+ or bachelor’s degree in Parks Sport Recreation or Parks Management qualifications is essential.
• 5+ years in a park management role and /or land management experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities and or experience in managing team.
• Experience in work planning/delivery and Health and Safety management.
• A current and valid NZ full driver’s licence
