Position Summary
The Costa Rica Engineering Director is responsible for leading the Engineering organization, setting expectations, ensuring accountability for project timelines and budgets, and providing strong cross‑functional alignment for NPI and sustaining engineering projects. This position requires an influential and technically strong leader with the ability to navigate a rapidly scaling medical device operation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field required; MBA preferred.
10+ years of engineering leadership experience at a director level for a site with 500+ employees and $150M+ in revenue within a high‑growth environment.
5+ years of experience in Medical Device Design & Manufacturing.
Strong business partner mindset with proven ability to build relationships across all organizational levels.
Demonstrated success working in high‑demand environments with competing priorities.
Experience working with enterprise systems such as Infor (ERP), WorkFront (project management), and Power BI (analytics).
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Strong technical background in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the site’s Engineering team, including performance evaluations, goal setting, mentoring, recruiting, conflict resolution, and budget oversight.
Drive cross‑functional alignment to ensure successful and on‑time delivery of NPI and sustaining projects.
Coach and develop engineering talent in technical and project‑related skills.
Oversee engineers working on multiple customer projects simultaneously.
Collaborate with the Global Program Team (GPT/PMO) to define workload expectations and resource planning.
Interface directly with customers to define design inputs and resolve technical challenges.
Break down complex engineering problems and determine effective solutions.
Make critical decisions aligned with company vision, strategy, and global initiatives.
Produce, review, and present engineering documentation (drawings, proposals, technical reports, analysis).
Collaborate with global counterparts on projects and management initiatives, including occasional off‑hour communication.
Travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.
Perform other engineering and leadership duties as assigned.
