Description

Venturi Astrolab, Inc. (Astrolab) is pioneering new ways to explore and operate on distant planetary bodies. We are singularly focused on designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers to extend and enhance humanity’s presence in the solar system. We are seeking motivated, creative, and exceptional people to join our world-class team.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Astrolab, you will lead the design, implementation, and operation of highly reliable DevOps infrastructure supporting mission critical planetary rover systems. You will own CI/CD architecture, automated testing and deployment pipelines, and scalable cloud infrastructure across multiple environments. This role requires deep hands on experience with Azure based systems, infrastructure as code, containerized platforms, and security focused DevOps practices. You will also help guide a small DevOps team, work closely with software and systems stakeholders, and ensure uptime, resilience, and compliance across active missions.

What You'll Do:

  • Owning the architecture, deployment, and long-term operation of CI/CD systems across multiple mission-critical software environments
  • Designing, implementing, and scaling automated testing and deployment pipelines for complex, high-reliability systems
  • Leading the design and management of virtualized and containerized environments used for software development, integration, and verification
  • Partnering closely with software, systems, and test engineers to define and implement robust build, test, and deployment workflows, including unit testing, documentation pipelines, software in the loop, and hardware in the loop environments
  • Developing and maintaining internal DevOps tools that improve engineering velocity, reliability, and developer experience
  • Establishing metrics, monitoring, and reporting for CI/CD performance, test coverage, infrastructure health, and pipeline reliability
  • Evaluating and adopting modern cloud, networking, and virtualization technologies to continuously improve scalability, security, and system resilience

What's Prepared You:

Required:
  • At least 7 years implementing and managing dev ops for significant software development systems and mission-critical systems (or similar systems requiring high reliability, redundancy, and constant up-time)
  • Experience with implementing and monitoring dev ops resources in Azure cloud, preferably with some experience with Microsoft 365 Government Community Cloud High (“GCC High”)
  • Experience with modern infrastructure as code (IaC) methodologies, implementations, tools, and practices
    • Specific experience with Terraform/OpenTOFU, Ansible, git, Jenkins, and related tools
  • Experience with configuration management, design, and deployment of  virtualized environments, including virtual networks, virtual machines, containers, monitoring systems, secrets management, and container management tools
    • Specific experience with Azure VMs, Docker compose, Grafana/Prometheus, and Kubernetes strongly desired
    • Demonstrated skills concerning security in virtual environments.  Should be conversant with concepts like “zero trust” and “least-privilege access.”
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining monitoring and notification systems for virtual resources and dev ops pipelines
  • Experiencing managing a small dev ops team with proven ability to work closely with stakeholders/users to achieve objectives on aggressive deadlines with limited resources
Desired:
  • Experience with Ubuntu Linux server management
  • Willingness to serve as part of the on-call rotations of critical infrastructure while missions are in progress
  • Familiarity with code development tools (revision control, compilers, linkers, unit test frameworks)
  • Familiarity with the NIST 800-171 standard and implementing NIST-compliant controls

What We Offer:

  • Join a team of best-in-class engineers building the foundation of planetary surface exploration
  • Equity ownership in the company
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and mental health support
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Flexible PTO and parental leave
  • Home office set-up reimbursement
  • Fully flexible and remote-friendly work environment
  • Weekly lunch stipend, plus complimentary snacks and beverages on-site
  • Twice a month, social hour on-site with food and drinks

What you'll do

  • You will lead the design, implementation, and operation of highly reliable DevOps infrastructure supporting mission-critical planetary rover systems. This includes owning CI/CD architecture, automated testing and deployment pipelines, and scalable cloud infrastructure across multiple environments.
