Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Space Systems Engineer to join the Enterprise Capabilities Team at United States Space Force (USSF), Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO).

This position is based in El Segundo, CA. You will play a critical role in advancing, integrating, and delivering system-of-systems space capabilities that support national security objectives. This is an opportunity to define the future of space operations—shaping enterprise requirements, performing mission engineering, and driving science and technology investments across USSF mission portfolios.

 

Astrion has worked extensively with the U.S. Space Force where it has earned a reputation for on-time delivery of high-quality products tailored to the needs of its clients. This position provides support to a government customer in El Segundo, CA for systems engineering and integration in a variety of Space Force tasks and projects.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

 

  • 15 years of combined industry, FFRDC and Federal Government experience with focus on Space Acquisition
  • Master’s Degree in related STEM-oriented field, such as Systems Architecture, Systems Engineering, Electrical/Computer/Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics; or a Bachelor’s Degree and 20 years experience in space acquisition
  • Ideal candidate has a demonstrated ability to interact with government and FFRDC subject matter experts to successfully meet objectives/goals on schedule
  • Be able to independently present data, Government’s position, and recommendations to any size audience compromised of peers through senior management
  • Thorough, detail oriented, and organized, with excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects at once, and work with minimal customer oversight. 
  • Superb written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); adaptable to new analytical tools
  • Self-motivated and independent thinker with out-of-the-box ideas 
  • Willingness to travel as required (occasional)
  • TS/SCI DoD security clearance required. DoD clearance eligibility requirements include US citizenship.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

 

  • Proficiency in Jira/Confluence
  • Experience with space acquisition (military, contractor, or DoD civilian) as a SETA or SE&I support staff
  • Project Management knowledge
  • Experience working with executives and senior management

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Your specific role will be to support programs by ensuring that the Space Industrial Base is mature, ready, and able to deliver components, subsystems, and systems required by mission-critical systems across the USSF Space Enterprise. In addition, you will assist in managing program risks by identifying, assessing, and mitigating threats, vulnerabilities, and disruptions to the Space Industrial Base supply chain from beginning to end to ensure mission effectiveness.

  • Provide support to Program Offices to address supply chain issues
  • Maintain a Supply Chain presence in Program Office spaces to better understand intricate supply chain issues and challenges
  • Build trust with supported organizations and continue to advocate bilateral collaboration between them and SSIO
  • Strengthen relationships w/other Government entities such as SAF/SQA, National Reconnaissance Office, Space Developmental Agency, Space Rapid Capabilities Office, Defense Logistics Agency, and Defense Contract Management Agency to widen the reach of the initiative’s efforts
  • Look for ways to partner with other services and commercial industry when appropriate
  • Build relationships with industry groups
  • Develop Space Industrial Base Governance documents
  • Review white papers submitted in response to calls for specific needs sent to Space Industrial Base Working Group members
  • Monitor trends and advancements in the Industrial Base to understand and anticipate future needs and manufacturing capabilities
