We are seeking a full-time Junior Software Engineer with knowledge of Java. The position provides support for the open-source software components that make up big data environments. The support will focus on Apache Accumulo, DataWave, Timely and Apache Hadoop sustainment.  Support will include both maintenance of the existing open-source software, dependencies, build tooling, and documentation as well as design, development, and testing of new open-source software enhancements.  

 

Responsibilities 

The Software Developer responsibilities are listed before; this is not an all-inclusive list:  

  • Develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements.
  • Works individually or as part of a team.
  • Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results.
  • Resolves software problem reports.
  • Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment
  • Provides specific input to software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS)/Government Off The Shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components
  • Reviews and analyzes customer requests and provide solutions (code)
  • Conducts research on solving and overcoming complex problems  
  • Collaborates with other team members 
  • Attends weekly standup meetings with customer and briefs progress, challenges and successes

 

Requirements 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass a government background investigation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering from an accredited college or university 
  • Experience in Java and multi-threaded programming
  • Shall possess the following capabilities:
    1. Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
    2. Debug Existing Software and correct defects
    3. Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
    4. Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
    5. Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
    6. Develop single data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
  • Experience with Apache Accumolo, Hadoop, Zookeeper, Timely and/or DataWave

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Reside in the Greater Baltimore/Central Maryland area

 

Schedule 

  • M-F between 6am and 6pm Eastern Time
  • You can flex time during the 2 week pay cycle - avoid using PTO for appointments
