JPSS Satellite Engineer Intern

SUMMARY

ASRC Federal Data Network Corporation is seeking a JPSS Satellite Engineer Intern to work a full year term for an average of 24 hours per week during normal business hours. Within the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) constellation engineering group, as part of the Engineering and Mission Operations Support Services VI (EMOSS-VI) contract, this position working from the Suitland, MD and Greenbelt, MD locations requires proven education and experience to demonstrate capacity to perform JPSS satellite engineering at a high-performance level. Our client is responsible for engineering and mission operations support for environmental monitoring satellites managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The JPSS Satellite Engineer Intern will perform duties as assigned. Applicant will gain detailed knowledge and skill to perform assigned disciplines. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Validation of flight operations products such as command procedures, telemetry displays, trend plots

• Development and verification of mission operations plans and procedures

• Integration and operation of the ground segment during interface tests, end-to-end tests and mission simulations

• Troubleshooting and analysis during ground segment anomalies, including real-time problem identification and resolution

• Improvements to or creation of tools that will increase long-term reliability, monitoring, and anomaly detection capability

• Development of and/or improvement to products used to command, control, communicate and monitor the spacecraft

• Development of and/or modifications to procedures that support launch readiness and mission integration within OSPO

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Sophomore or Junior pursuing a Bachelor's degree (in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Math, or related field) or equivalent, and 0 years’ experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Understanding of satellite ground systems and flight operations
  • Linux experience
  • Some programming experience

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work in typical office building during normal business hours. Typically working 24 hours per week, but hours can vary.
