Summary:

 

The Business Segment Safety Manager is a key leader responsible for developing, monitoring, adapting, and continuously improving safety programs in partnership with leadership teams that align with Arrowhead’s Safety First. This role ensures regulatory compliance, drives proactive risk mitigation, and cultivates a safety-first mindset across our domestic distribution and office locations. The Segment Safety Manager is instrumental in partnering to align site-level practices with corporate initiatives and contributes to the development and integration of a best-in-class safety management system that meets ISO 45001 and OSHA VPP standards.

 

Duties:

Leadership & Safety Culture

  • Serve as the primary safety leader for the business segment and foster a strong safety culture, engaging employees and leaders at all facilities through leadership visibility and influence.
  • Act as the lead point of contact for regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and partner with site Operations Leadership during inspections, audits, and inquiries.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into daily operations and long-term business planning.
  • Serve as main point of contact for all regulatory visits, communications and inspections at responsible locations.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local occupational health and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • In partnership with the facilities, develop, implement, and maintain site policies and safety plans, procedures, and programs to ensure regulatory and internal compliance.
  • In partnership with operations leadership Conduct safety gap analysis, daily safety observations, safety walk inspections and travel to all facilities on a regular basis to conduct the same.
  • Maintain safety-related training records, accident reports and other documents while ensuring proper completion and filing.

Training & Engagement

  • Develop, conduct and facilitate safety training and New Hire Orientations. Maintain accurate record keeping and record retention.
  • In partnership with Operations Leadership Develop and manage job safety assessments, job instructions, job hazard assessments and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead and manage the site’s Safety Committee and employee engagement initiatives to reinforce a safety-driven culture.

Incident Management & Prevention

  • Assist in conducting investigations, accident root cause analysis, responses and documentation for safety incidents, injuries, near-misses, and property damage and implement correction action measures in partnership with applicable internal parties.
  • Track and analyze incident trends; drive continuous improvement through proactive safety initiatives, preventive measures, metrics and analytics.
  • Manage Workers Comp, return to work and injury follow-up.

Environmental & Emergency Preparedness

  • Manage the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensure compliance with ISO 14001 standards.
  • In partnership with Operations Leadership team Plan and oversee site readiness for emergency situations and the development of plans, conducting regular drills, and assessing employee preparedness.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and behavioral safety observations to identify and mitigate risks including site security, policies, programs and actions.
  • Administer the RCRA program and ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.

Safety Equipment & Facilities Oversight

  • Manage safety equipment and inventory of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety supplies; ensure availability and proper usage.
  • Perform internal audits and ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for equipment and all safety-related activities.

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of OSHA VPP, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and related federal/state safety and other health regulations along with compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, regulations as they relate to distribution/manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience managing injury reporting, Workers’ Compensation claims, and Return-to-Work programs.
  • AED/CPR Certification (Instructor Certification) preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and root cause analysis and implement solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of warehouse processes and operations flow, including environmental requirements and chemical management in warehouse and office environments.
  • Ability to consistently teach, train and enforce safety compliance rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency and accuracy with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Must be fluent in English and have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • High level of ability to manage, lead and influence independently.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% domestically required.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb, reach for extended periods
  • Descend and ascend stairs.
  • Tolerance hot, cold and wet environments

 

Working Conditions:

Role will work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment which may or may not be climate controlled.  The ability to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other PPE as required is a must.  Most of the workday will be indoors, however, at times, role will be required to work outside as needed.
