Job Description
Under general direction, plan, develop, produce, and disseminate creative, high quality, and cost-effective communication, safety education, and community outreach programs and serve as a liaison between department and University technology teams. Reviews, analyzes, implements, and evaluates business and technology systems.
Essential Duties
Manages communication initiatives, programs, and projects through analysis, planning, creation, and development of high impact training materials and content.
Plans, develops and implements safety-related communications projects and programs for the University in support of department goals and objectives.
Creates and delivers high impact safety education, either in person or via an electronic medium.
Coordinates education and outreach activities, programs and events including but not limited to: conferences, presentations, and lecture series.
Designs, develops and facilitates safety education, outreach and workshops for faculty, staff, and students in the use of departmental data management and processing tools.
Creates and maintains safety databases utilizing various computer programming languages or user-oriented software such as, SPSS, SQL, or SAS.
Ensures accurate inventory and accuracy of management systems for hazardous materials, such as biologicals, chemicals, and radioactive and potentially radioactive substances.
Analyzes management problems and/or policy implications using appropriate sound methodology and assists evaluators in the development of measurement tools.
Reviews departmental website for currency and accuracy and ensures that updates and changes are made including keeping documents current.
Collaborate with department staff to implement a strategy for delivering outreach and safety education activities.
Prepare reports and records showing department’s education and activities, progress, and status and other special reports as needed.
Collaborates with campus partners and stakeholders, vendors and contractors to coordinate production of printed materials for program projects, events, articles and schedules and coordinates distribution.
Determines target markets to expand audience base and creates and produces communication materials from concept to completion.
Responsible for copywriting and editing.
Determines layout of printed materials, instructional video broadcast, training slides, presentations, web pages and web-based communications.
Will oversee the production of materials. Interfaces with department personnel and outside stakeholders, project leads/managers and team members to develop materials and content.
Organizes and maintains project archival system to provide ease of access and use.
May assist with establishing procedures and trains other employees in how to manage data and operate specialized equipment, such as devices used for gas detection, mercury vapor analysis, and radiation detection.
Work Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Clear communications skills to perform essential functions, with or without accommodation.. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25lbs., with or without accommodation. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Some work includes working in indoor and outdoor environments that may include extreme weather conditions; hot in summer and cold in winter. Equipment used: Regular use of standard office equipment including but not limited to computer workstation or laptop. Use of a keyboard, monitor, mouse, printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated technology peripherals. Driving an ASU vehicle with a valid AZ Driver’s License.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of training and learning development processes and techniques. Knowledge of the functions, features and potential applications of electronic systems for the delivery knowledge of training programs (e.g. computer-based training, teleconferencing, interactive-video, training software, etc.). Knowledge of instructionally designed training and delivery strategies and methodologies from needs assessment, design, development, implementation through evaluation. Knowledge of computer databases and systems and inventory management. Knowledge of web content and management concepts, principles and practices. Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written. Skill in data analysis. Skill in using Excel, Access, MS Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to understand and use enterprise systems. Skill in computer programming languages or user-oriented software such as, SPSS, SQL, or SAS. Skill in operating instructional, audiovisual, or satellite reception equipment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and facilitating work teams. Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to handle multiple complex issues through the use of negotiation skills. Ability to work in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs. Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
