$50,000 - $55,000 annually; DOE

Under general supervision, the Human Resources (HR) Specialist assists with coordinating the HR functions within the Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) department. This position will primarily be responsible for overseeing the department’s student staff in various positions throughout the campuses, and assisting the HR Specialist Sr. If you have strong organizational skills, can solve problems and think independently while working with peers and leadership invested in your success, we encourage you to apply.

Days and Schedule: The work location is primarily at the Tempe campus; however, the incumbent may be required to travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses to perform work, driving their own vehicle. This is an in-person, full-time position, with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.


Essential Duties:

HR Operational Support – 80%

  • Processes a large volume of student worker full life-cycle recruitment requests within HR systems.
  • Processes a large volume of student worker transactions, including but not limited to promotions, transfers, stipend payments, and termination requests within HR systems.
  • Responsible for personnel files entries for a large volume of employees, ensuring appropriate document and file names adhere to ASU, state, and federal guidelines.

Payroll Coordination and Compliance – 10%

  • Assists with communication to supervisors for Payroll deadlines for Student Workers on a biweekly basis, adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Assists supervisors and Student Workers with any issues regarding Payroll entries.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations by verifying that payroll records (employee changes, one-time payments, and deductions) align with personnel documents. This includes ensuring employees are paid accurately and that documentation is maintained in a timely manner per department guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities – 10%

  • Support leadership initiatives related to project-based requests or assist the HR Specialist, Sr. in high-volume periods.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, to ensure the continuity of department operations and to meet customer service needs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the recruitment life cycle with extensive detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Excel, Outlook, MS Word, Google Docs, and Airtable.
  • Experience with high-volume transaction processing.
  • Experience working with Workday for HR transactions such as additional payments, terminations, and promotions.
  • Experience with the Payroll process
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-priority projects with accuracy, discretion, and follow-through.
  • Evidence of strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with sound judgment in complex or confidential situations.
  • Experience composing and preparing professional correspondence and communications for leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, leadership, and students, to ensure consistency and alignment in HR processes and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute HR actions requiring cross-functional communication and proactive problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements, laws, and standards.
  • Knowledge of Human resource practices, regulations, and standards.
  • Experience in working in a Higher Education establishment
  • Experience with Workday HR software (Workday)
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, sensitive/confidential information, and short deadlines.
  • Experience in leading by example in communicating, participating, and encouraging support for the institution's sustainability programs.

  • Climb stairs in locations with no elevator, such as the mezzanine level of the MU, or Irish Hall
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students. EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, TRIO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services, Access ASU and others.
