The Director of Application Development & Quality Assurance plays a critical leadership role at Arise Virtual Solutions, responsible for modernizing, scaling, and governing enterprise application platforms. This role leads multiple engineering and quality teams across onshore and offshore locations, ensuring the delivery of secure, resilient, and high-quality applications that support business growth and operational excellence.
The Director partners closely with Product, Security, PMO, and business stakeholders to drive predictable delivery, architectural modernization, and continuous improvement across the enterprise technology landscape.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap for key enterprise application domains, including CRM/Customer platforms, Finance/ERP, Workforce & Scheduling, and Data & Analytics.
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering and quality managers and teams across distributed onshore and offshore environments.
- Drive excellence across the full SDLC using agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), CI/CD pipelines, trunk-based development, and measurable delivery metrics.
- Establish and embed DevSecOps practices in partnership with Security, ensuring secure coding standards, threat modeling, and vulnerability remediation SLAs are met.
- Oversee application reliability, performance, and scalability through observability, capacity planning, and performance engineering.
- Own release and change governance in coordination with PMO and Change Enablement, ensuring predictable release cycles, standardized go/no-go criteria, and post-implementation reviews.
- Lead application and platform modernization initiatives, including migration from monolithic systems to API-first, event-driven, and cloud-native architectures.
- Manage vendor and partner relationships, including nearshore/offshore and managed-services providers, with clear SLAs, quality gates, and accountability.
- Partner with Product, Business, Security, Data, and Enterprise Technology leaders to prioritize roadmaps, manage risks, and communicate delivery status.
- Manage budgets, capacity planning, and portfolio investments, ensuring alignment to business outcomes and ROI.
- Ensure compliance, audit readiness, documentation, and traceability across systems and processes.
- Build and sustain a strong talent pipeline through hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
- Lead special initiatives and enterprise-wide projects as assigned by senior leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- 15+ years of experience in software/application engineering, with at least 10+ years leading managers and multi-team portfolios in an agile enterprise environment.
- Proven success delivering complex, large-scale application programs with automated testing and modern branching/merge strategies.
- Strong hands-on leadership experience with enterprise SDLC governance, release management, and change management tools (ServiceNow, Jira, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience coaching teams on secure development practices and partnering effectively with Security and Compliance teams.
- Experience managing global engineering teams and third-party vendors with outcome-based accountability.
- Strong architectural knowledge, including microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and integration patterns.
- Excellent executive presence with the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
- Experience with one or more enterprise platforms:
- CRM/CX (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics)
- ERP/Finance (Oracle E-Business Suite)
- Planning & Analytics (Anaplan, Power BI, Enterprise Data Warehouses)
- Cloud & Compute (AWS, Azure, On-Premises)
- Experience leading platform or data modernization initiatives.
- Industry experience in BPO, CX, marketplace, or large-scale gig platforms preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Leadership Scope
- Directly manages multiple engineering and quality teams across onshore and offshore locations.
- Owns delivery outcomes for internal teams and external partners.
- May co-own partner budgets, SOWs, and vendor performance metrics in collaboration with PMO and Procurement.
