Job Summary

The Lead Preschool Teacher provides a nurturing, faith-filled, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. Rooted in Catholic values, this role supports the spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child while fostering a lifelong love of learning and respect for self and others. The Lead Teacher also provides guidance and support to assistant teachers and helps ensure a high-quality, cohesive preschool program.

Job Responsibilities

Faith Formation & Catholic Identity

  • Model and actively promote Catholic values, prayer, and moral development within the classroom.
  • Integrate age-appropriate religious instruction and faith-based activities into daily learning.
  • Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, and other faith-centered events.
  • Partner with families to support the faith formation and spiritual growth of each child.

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with diocesan early childhood standards.
  • Use play-based, hands-on learning experiences to promote curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Integrate faith, literacy, math, science, art, and social-emotional learning throughout the curriculum.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of preschool students.

Classroom Environment & Management

  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment that supports independence, cooperation, and respect.
  • Establish consistent routines and positive behavior expectations grounded in Christian values.
  • Observe, document, and assess student development and progress; maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student growth, behavior, and classroom activities.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide daily guidance, support, and direction to assistant teachers and classroom aides.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administration to ensure a cohesive and high-quality early childhood program.
  • Support onboarding and mentoring of new preschool staff as needed.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide events.

Professionalism & Communication

  • Maintain open, respectful, and professional communication with families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Conduct parent conferences and contribute to newsletters or classroom communications.
  • Uphold school policies, diocesan guidelines, and professional standards at all times.

Job Requirements

  • State teaching certification and/or diocesan certification (preferred).

  • Previous experience teaching or working with preschool-aged children.

  • Active, practicing Catholic preferred; commitment to supporting and modeling Catholic values required.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a faith-based educational community.
