Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Water Engineer to join our Resilience Water Team in Austin, Texas!

As a Senior Water Engineer, you will leverage your expertise and technical knowledge to lead the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater projects. In addition to managing projects, you will play a key role in developing client relationships, mentoring junior staff, and growing our water/wastewater practice in the Austin area and throughout Texas.

Role accountabilities:

As a Senior Water Engineer, you will manage projects and clients through the planning, design, and construction of water/wastewater conveyance systems, pump/lift stations, stormwater systems, and/or treatment plants. You will create preliminary engineering reports, contract documents, drawings and specifications for construction, oversee construction activities for both new builds and rehabilitation projects, assist with system commissioning, and ensure successful project execution.

You will be responsible for preparing comprehensive design packages, including all deliverables, for the engineering, procurement, and construction of water, wastewater, and stormwater pipeline and pump station projects from inception to completion. You will coordinate project execution across multiple disciplines, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective outcomes. A key aspect of the role involves managing and leading the growth of client relationships by understanding their needs, providing innovative solutions, and overseeing the preparation of winning proposals and impactful presentations.

In this position, you will work directly with clients to assess their requirements and deliver tailored solutions while leading teams in the development of successful proposals and presentations. Additionally, you will supervise and support the work of others, mentoring junior-level engineers and technical staff to foster professional growth and enhance team capabilities. Your responsibilities will include managing and conducting condition assessments for water, wastewater, and storm system assets, such as pipelines and pump/lift stations, utilizing advanced approaches and technologies to ensure accurate evaluations.

You will also be tasked with developing and managing cost estimates and project schedules to ensure designs are completed within budget and on time. Maintaining compliance with Arcadis practices, quality standards, and safety protocols is essential to this role. Furthermore, travel will be required as needed for client meetings, project site visits, and other related activities, ensuring active engagement and effective project delivery.

Key Skills and Attributes:

The ideal candidate possesses excellent technical engineering and project management skills within the water and wastewater practice area. They demonstrate strong client relationship capabilities, including the preparation and development of proposals, coupled with a proven track record of successfully managing and delivering various engineering projects to meet client expectations.

With extensive experience in the design and construction of municipal water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, stormwater systems, treatment plants, and pump/lift stations, the candidate is well-equipped to handle complex projects. Additionally, they have expertise in managing and reviewing project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. Their exceptional client relationship skills are evidenced by their experience in preparing and delivering proposals and effectively managing client expectations.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • TCEQ Water and/or Wastewater Operator License.
  • Experience serving as the engineer of record for water transmission/distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and pump station designs in the Texas region.
  • Established client relationships within the Austin/Texas market and a demonstrated history of securing and delivering water and wastewater projects.
  • Expertise in alternative delivery projects.
  • Active engagement in regional or national professional associations.
