Dental Assistant (Mobile Dental Clinic)

Location: White River Junction VA Medical Center – Mobile Dental Clinic

Compensation: Starting at 21.00/hr; negotionable hourly based on years of experience. Mobile Dental Clinic experience is a plus. 

Position Overview

Dental Assistants provide chairside, administrative, and operational support to dentists and dental hygienists within the mobile dental clinic environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical & Administrative Support

  • Perform chairside assistance for all phases of dentistry.

  • Prepare patients and instruments for procedures.

  • Measure and record vital signs, including geriatric considerations.

  • Operate dental x-ray equipment and evaluate images for diagnostic quality.

  • Assist with VA EHR and Dental EHR documentation, chart updates, and lab prescriptions.

  • Provide patient education and post-care instructions.

Clinic Operations

  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and daily operation of the mobile dental clinic.

  • Maintain inventory and report replacement needs.

  • Support patient flow and clinic efficiency.

Process Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Identify and document process improvements.

  • Assist with pilot program reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Background / Qualifications

  • Current, full, and unrestricted registration as a Dental Assistant in the State of Vermont.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of creditable experience practicing as a full-time dental assistant; VA experience preferred.

  • Meets radiologic credentialing requirements under 42 C.F.R. Part 75.

  • Radiologic certification must be completed within one (1) month of onboarding via one of the following:

    • Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination (DANB), OR

    • VA-approved Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology course, OR

    • State board or Department of Defense–approved radiation safety program.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Office applications.

  • Experience with electronic health record systems and clinical terminology.

  • Current unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ability to operate a mobile dental clinic (CDL not required).

  • Willingness to comply with VA vehicle operation policies and training per VA Directive 0637.

  • Current BLS or CPR certification from an American Heart Association–approved program.
