About this role

Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a visionary Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to serve as the firm’s senior clinical executive. This leader will bridge the gap between clinical practice, government policy, and advanced technology, driving strategy across our three core pillars: Management Consulting, Health Informatics, and Clinical Staffing.

While deeply rooted in data-driven decision-making, the CMO will look beyond the algorithms to the human element of healthcare delivery. You will serve as a trusted advisor to Veterans Health Administration (VHA) leadership, overseeing the clinical quality of our deployed workforce, leading solutioning for major federal proposals, and ensuring our informatics capabilities translate into real-world improvements in Veteran outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Executive Clinical Strategy & Thought Leadership
    • Serve as the primary clinical voice for Aptive, representing the firm in high-level discussions with VHA leadership (VISN Directors, Chiefs of Staff, Program Office Leaders) and industry partners.
    • Advise Aptive’s executive team on emerging healthcare trends, VHA policy shifts (e.g., HRO, PACT Act), and clinical market opportunities.
    • Publish white papers, speak at conferences, and drive thought leadership that positions Aptive as a premier partner in federal health transformation.
  • Health Informatics & Data Strategy Oversight
    • Strategic Direction: Transition from "doing" the data work to "directing" the strategy. Guide the Health Informatics/Data Science teams to ensure analytics outputs are clinically relevant and actionable for providers.
    • Translation: Translate complex data insights into clear narratives for non-technical government stakeholders, focusing on patient safety, operational efficiency, and revenue cycle improvements.
    • Innovation: Champion the integration of AI/ML tools into clinical workflows, ensuring they enhance rather than impede provider experience.
  • Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance (Staffing Oversight)
    • Establish and maintain the clinical governance framework for Aptive’s healthcare staffing contracts.
    • Oversee medical credentialing policies, privileging standards, and quality assurance (QA) protocols to mitigate risk and ensure the highest standard of care.
    • Serve as the escalation point for clinical incidents or adverse events involving Aptive staff, leading root cause analyses and corrective action planning.
  • Business Development & Capture
    • Engage prospective clients to understand and shape opportunities, create Aptive brand awareness and communicate value propositions
    • Establish relationships with key industry partners
    • Lead the clinical solutioning for major proposals, ensuring technical approaches reflect medical reality and VHA best practices.
    • Identify gaps in VHA care delivery that Aptive can fill through consulting or staffing solutions.
    • Participate in "Color Team" reviews (Pink/Red/Gold) to validate the clinical accuracy and win-themes of proposal responses.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required:

    • Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
    • Licensure: Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State or Territory.
    • Experience:
      • 10+ years of post-residency clinical experience.
      • 5+ years of executive-level leadership experience (e.g., Chief of Staff, Medical Director, CMO) within a healthcare organization or consulting firm.
      • Demonstrated experience with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Military Health System (MHS), or other federal health agencies.
    • Expertise: Strong background in Health Informatics, bringing a "data-first" approach to clinical management.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Board Certification in Clinical Informatics.
    • Experience with federal acquisition/contracting (business development, proposal writing).
    • Deep understanding of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles.
    • Experience managing clinical workforce contracts or large-scale clinical transformation projects.
