Applied Materials is known as the world leader in providing equipment for the IC manufacturing industry. The System To Materials (STM) group is bridging the gap from materials & manufacturing to systems in order to co-optimize all steps from materials to systems.

The part of STM located in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, provides EDA solutions inside and outside Applied Materials, focused on physical layout and design rules. Software includes automatic generation of standard cell layouts, design rule checking, definition and validation. Customers are large semiconductor manufacturers as well as Applied Materials internal groups. 

The team is looking for a communicative Electrical Engineer or Computer Science expert for supporting our software. This role involves creating specs for new or upgraded software features, developing prototypes / demonstrators of new features, and participating in support and sales of software (analyze customer issues / create presentations / give demos). This position is based out of our Eindhoven office but involves significant travel within Europe and extending to US and Asia..

Key responsibilities 

  • Communicate with end-users to support software in the areas of polygon level physical IC layout: 

  • Analyse and resolve software issues as reported by users 

  • Creating specs for new or upgrading existing software features 

  • Develop prototypes (in Python) for such features 

  • Demonstrate software in these areas (as part of the sales process) 

  • Travel to customers or trade-shows for above purposes 

  • Communicate to R&D developers to create optimal specifications for new features 

  • Implement work-around solutions using Python 

Key requirements 

  • Bsc or Msc in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, 5 -10 years of experience 

  • Experience in large (50+ person years) software projects, working in a team 

  • Understanding of IC physical layout. Insight in integrated circuit processing steps is a pro 

  • Scripting in python 

  • Being able to demonstrate these key requirements 

  • Travel:  Max two weeks per 2 months
