About this role

Overview

The Seamstress is responsible for making, altering, and repairing a variety of cloth, rubber, and plastic articles by use of a sewing machine or by hand.

Responsibilities

Marks dimensions, cuts out patterns for, fits together and sews articles, drapes, equipment covers, binders, pillow and chair covers, etc.

Mends, hems and alters linens, drapes, etc.

Maintains sewing machine, other equipment and supplies. Notifies supervisor when necessary repair or service is required.

May alter certain ill-fitting garments, sew on buttons, make or repair buttonholes.

May convert larger worn and damaged items into usable smaller items.

May maintain inventory or other related records as required.

Stamps necessary articles with hospital identifying marks.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED equivalent with One (1) to Two (2) years experience in sewing.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Completion of courses in sewing or dressmaking desirable.

Two (2) to four (4) weeks on-the-job training necessary to attain proficiency of performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Must have proper color vision for detecting stains, etc.
